Information sharing is key to lunar peace, safety, and sustainability.
LPP is creating the first guide to it: the Lunar Information Sharing 101.
The LIS 101 is open for comments
On May 4th, 2025, LPP shared a first version of the LIS 101 with the participants involved in these consultations and all other interested stakeholders for their feedback. Based on the comments received, LPP has developed a second version and shared it for a second round of comments between June 17th and July 20th.
Any comments on the LIS 101 can be emailed to
lis@lunarpolicyplatform.org
On June 24th, LPP presented V2 of the LIS 101 during the 68th Session of the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space during a side event co-hosted with our closest partner and funder, the Open Lunar Foundation.
Based on the feedback that will be expressed, LPP will develop a third version for final review and consideration of support, aiming to releasing the final LIS 101
around the end of August.
A Reference Guide to
Lunar Information Sharing
The Lunar Information Sharing 101 is the first and only document identifying common ground on core elements, guiding principles, and streamlined practices for lunar information sharing, based upon 5 months of extensive global consultations featuring over
35 governments, space agencies, lunar companies, and experts.
The LIS 101 is divided in 4 sections:
Part I presents background information on LPP and outlines goals, structure, vision and methodology of the LIS 101.
Part II identifies convergence and divergence between actors on purposes, legal bases, mechanisms, stakeholders, and limitations.
Part III presents common ground on a working definition, guiding principles, and streamlined practices on what to share, where, how, and when, including a template and timelines.
Part IV concludes by summarising key takeaways
and outlining next steps for implementation.
