Law & Policy for Mission Success
Successful lunar missions require contracts and regulations just as much as they need funding, technology and engineering. Since 1967, space law and policy provided peace, safety, and stability, enabling the flourishing development of the space economy. Today, lunar activities are testing the system of space law to its very limits, raising new complex legal issues.
At LPP we possess specialised expertise and demonstrated experience in space law & policy, global space economy, and geopolitics. Our team of experts operates at the core of global processes and discussions shaping the future regulation of lunar activities. Leveraging our expertise and connections, we can devise tailored solutions fostering mission success.
Lunar Policy Briefs
Our policy briefs are expert assessments providing focused advice to address specific policy needs.
We can analyse topics of interest, or examine a lunar mission to identify potential legal and policy issues, outline their implications, and develop solutions.
Lunar Policy Workshops
Our policy workshops are tailored events designed to meet the needs of stakeholders preferring a hands-on approach to lunar policy. Our policy workshops can be structured to meet a variety of purposes, either in person or online depending on available resources.
Legal Drafting
and Due Diligence
Thanks to our legal expertise, we can help you drafting, revising and submitting documents for domestic licensing, grant applications, purchase of launch and payload services, non-disclosure agreements, and other areas as needed.
We also conduct Reputational Due Diligence (RDD) assessments of stakeholders and organisations.
Tabletop Exercises
and Crisis Simulations
Our Tabletop Exercises are near-real-world simulation of lunar scenarios guiding you through potential geopolitical crises, regulatory shifts,
lunar accidents, and related event chains, to understand implications and develop plans.
Thanks to our partnership with SpaceData, we can host our TableTop Exercises in a Lunar Digital Twin.
Strategic Engagements at the United Nations
The U.N. Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS) is the multilateral body for the governance of space. COPUOS meets three times a year to discuss technical, legal, and policy aspects related to the exploration and use of space.
Through its working groups and action teams, the Committee advances critical discussions on information sharing,
space resources, lunar consultation, space debris, space traffic management, long term sustainability, and many more.
At LPP we have almost a decade of experience in attending COPUOS meetings and possess extensive knowledge of its methods
of work, rules of procedure, and established practices. Over the years, our Team has supported the work of COPUOS through
expert initiatives such as the Article XI Project and individually providing consulting services on lunar governance.
Leveraging this knowledge and network, we can assist all actors in strategising their COPUOS engagements .
COPUOS Memos
Our COPUOS Memos provide key information on the agenda of the Committee and its Subcommittees, specific to each session year after year, as well as on its methods of work and opportunities for engagement.
COPUOS Briefs
Our COPUOS Briefs provide strategic suggestions on how to plan and conduct specific engagements at the sessions of COPUOS and its Subcommittees to achieve desired objectives based on individual needs.
COPUOS Drafting
Through our COPUOS drafting services we assist stakeholders with drafting in-session documents such as non-papers, conference room papers, technical presentations, side-event agendas, and more.
COPUOS Preparations
Through our COPUOS preparation meetings we answer any questions you may have, and guide you step-by-step in planning and conducting your engagements at the sessions of COPUOS.
Multi-Stakeholder Convening
Modern space activities see the involvement of a diverse array of actors extending far beyond national governments. Commercial players, investors, scientific institutions, civil society organisations, are playing a crucial role in the
conduct of space activities and are becoming increasingly involved in regulatory and policy processes.
Despite this, meaningful interaction among these stakeholders for sharing ideas, teaming up, and building common understandings remains underdeveloped due to protocol issues, differing frameworks, and political complexities.
As a neutral platform with a global network we can help overcome these barriers and build bridges.
Strategic Briefs
Through our Strategic Briefs we provide tailored guidance and recommendations on how to engage effectively within the global space sector to achieve the desired results with maximum impact.
Landscape Mapping
Thanks to our global network, we can help you map the landscape of existing stakeholders and potential partners and collaborators in the fast-evolving lunar sector, further providing customised assessments.
Private Dialogues
Leveraging our extensive connections in the sector, we can convene and facilitate private meaningful dialogues among stakeholders who might face challenges communicating in open settings.
Face-to-face Guidance
Through our face-to-face meetings we can guide you step-by-step in planning and conducting your
desired engagements in the space sector, and
answer any questions you may have.
